Last night I was kept from sleep by being on a stand-by evacuation alert.

800 Homes in several neighborhoods vanished in a fire storm that swept across the little towns of Superior and Louisville Colorado.

A furious fast moving sweep of flames powered by hurricane force winds took only a few hours to destroy property and material things and leave 30,000 people standing speechless in shelters set up in church's, recreation centers and office centers across Boulder County.

At 6 am this morning we were cleared and safe from the spreading nightmare by a foot of snow that fell allowing our brave firefighters a chance to control the monster.

Miraclesly no deaths have been reported.

For many nights to come I will not sleep thinking about what I chose to pack in my suitcase. It could be only a small collection of things.

It could be all I have from a house full of stuff.

I packed passport, cash, laptop and extra car keys. copies of insurance and ID documents.

Then I put my second favorite jeans and shoes and 3 changes of my oldest favorite shirts and socks and underwear.

I will take my paintings and sculptures, if I have time.

I would miss my chair.

I would miss my dear old structure filled with sweat and tears and

the personal comforts i built into it.

What would you pack?

I will not sleep thinking of all those folks not sleeping or trying to sleep in unfamiliar surroundings hugging their mates and kids and pets and being grateful for life itself.

Tomorrow is different than yesterday cause we must remember to put 2022 on papers we sign.

I don’t sleep because I’m working in service of my dreams.
