What Is An Artist & Who Qualifies To Be One?
What is an artist? Are artists born or created and at what point can you call yourself one?
What is an artist? Are artists born or created and at what point can you call yourself one?
I believe every one of us is an artist and we all possess the ability to create art. I speak more about this in The Artist’s Manifesto.
It is in built from birth, inherent in all children. Like Pablo Picasso said;
“The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up”
Ah yes, good oul society, the momentum of conformity. It knocks the creative energy out of most of us before we even get going.
The system need pawns for the game and the majority of us walk straight into it blind to the rules.
But that’s ok, we eventually figure it out. Although for most of us it’s very late in the day when we do so.
No I’m not kicking society’s ass here, it’s good enough for what it is. Yes it could be a damn sight better but I think everyone will agree it’s better than it was 20, 30, 50 or more years ago.
However, if we are to create meaningful things we need to isolate ourselves away from it.
For the artist to create the things from her imagination then we’ve got to give it space to do its work.
The Artist’s Manifesto is a short book about staying true to our art. It is a call to Artists and Creatives like you to create from the heart with passion and integrity, disregarding the need for applause and recognition. It’s available from 13th May 2017. Grab your FREE copy here.
Creativity Has Will To Be Expressed
Artists are born. The ability to create things is with everyone, however we often don’t allow it.
Creativity wills itself to be expressed and will express if left to do so unhindered.
Everyone feels the need to create in their own way and no one has the right to encroach on other people’s creative integrity, method or means of creation.
Art is unique, it is never the same despite the insistence of the world to place art in boxes with labels.
The street sweeper can be an artist. The barista can be an artist. The plumber, the architect, the florist, the mechanic and the accountant, they all can be artists.
Everyone has the opportunity to create art in their chosen profession, but not many choose it. For us who can see art in all things and people, their artistic ability is obvious, even if they can’t see it themselves.
It is there, waiting to be allowed expression. Allowing that energy expression is a challenge because the world tells us we need to be productive and efficient, to contribute and to earn.
Our challenge therefore is to follow the sound of the small voice. To allow it to lead us in the direction of what we inherently know is right.
Some of us know it and express it, some of us know it and don’t express it, many others don’t yet know it. Maybe this lifetime is not for them to know it, but eventually everyone will know it and express it.
We have no choice in that matter.
