The survival of the fittest, Darwinian notion of evolution of humanity is tired and outdated, however still prominent in the minds of most people. It allows us to justify our position of advantage, where it exists, and allow our senior civil servants explain away their actions of political elitism. Capitalism is quite simply, the cynical exploitation of masses of people who really should know better but allow themselves be taken advantage of.

The entire advertising industry, the right arm of capitalism, is structured to convince us we need stuff (things, people and policies) we don’t. They know more about the our psychology than we know ourselves. This is a problem. I’m not sure how close we are to figuring that one out. Maybe generations away.

Is there really democracy where the people are so easily duped by clever marketing and salesmanship of lobbyists and in-the-pocket politicians?

I think the idea of democracy is dead and buried. The entire world is run by corporations, financial powerhouses, and legal monoliths.

We have abdicated our power to then en masse for the sake of the promise of an easy life, TV shows and iPhones.

George and Aldous warned us of this.
