I remember probably about 6 years ago I was doing a small job in Malahide. I pulled into the side of the road on the coast to Portmarnock. It was a stormy kind of day. The waves were crashing into the beach and the gulls were looping in and out, up and down, feeding on whatever the sea brought in. It struck me as I watched this that it happened always, never ceasing. No time in it. All of it happening now, in and out forever. It didn’t care about what I thought or what I was doing. It had no concern for my troubles. It was simple and profound all at once.
