049 - How To Know If This Is Right
You have an impulse to start, but doubt if it’s viable. How do you know you’re not wasting your time?

Welcome to the Editor’s Journal; A daily thought on writing, the creative process, art, work, the world and how it all goes together. Every morning I rise early, I sit here in the quiet of my kitchen and I write whatever’s prominent. There’s no clever headlines and no script, just open and honest thoughts. I hope you enjoy the read. If you like this article please offer some love by hitting the 💚 cheers!
I could start and finish this short article with this…
You don’t.
You’ve just got to try it. Not trying it is perhaps the greatest mistake because you rob yourself of the experience and the potential to make something great.
There’s no guarantees, that’s for sure. But the longer you doubt the worthiness of the impulse then the greater chance you have of failing. At least that’s been my experience.
Procrastination — that’s what it is.
However, it’s unfair to the process to simply wright-off fence sitting as pointless. Acting too quickly before you’ve had a chance to measure your actions can leave you with a ball of shit.
We’ve got to take our time initially while we figure things out. During this time it is advisable to make something. It doesn’t matter what it is or how pretty it is, make something anyway.
This way we can gauge what were doing against what’s already out there.
No, you don’t have to make that initial prototype public, but you should try.
It takes balls to stick your neck out, especially if there’s a lack of encouragement from friends and family.
No matter, get it out there anyway. Do it anonymously at first if you have to.
The thing is we’ll never know if it’s right or not unless we try.
If we had the idea then the idea was meant for us.
Tempus Fugit, you know?
We’ll be long enough dead.
