TDL121 Anything Else Is A Waste Of Time
The Sunday Letters Podcast is the weekly audio newsletter from organisational psychologist Larry Maguire on the meaning & purpose of daily work and our paradoxical relationship with it. We explore how we may break free from tiresome means-to-an-end labour and take command of their own working lives. Topics include solo working, careers, entrepreneurship, small business economics, society and culture. Content follows the written newsletter, which goes out to subscribers every Sunday.
In today's episode of The Daily Larb, I'm talking a little more about the importance of disconnecting from the need to bring about a particular result in the creative process. Some believe that to create something worthwhile we've got to grind it out, to "make" it happen, as if being the boss of it is going to bring about worldly success and admiration. In fact, the opposite seems to be true. At least that has been my experience of how this creative thing works. Sure, determination, or rather resilience, is required in any creative endeavour, but to feel the need to force a thing to be a particular way will actually have the reverse effect. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sunday-letters/message
